NDIDI A. OKAKPU   |   PRINICIPAL CONSULTANT

Ndidi A. Okakpu is a consultant in community development and social enterprise with an extensive background in business, nonprofit management , community organizing and relations,  and activism. She seeks to cultivate holistic community development backed by strong and sustainable models for growth in marginalized communities and those most in need.

 

Past clients include: Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, Zakat Foundation of America, Inner-City Muslim Action Network and many others.  Most notably Ndidi served as director of operations for the historic 2015 Chicago Mayoral campaign of Jesús "Chuy" Garcia.  She directed operations for the campaign's 12 offices including their headquarters.

 

 

Ndidi previously worked at Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) in organizing and capacity building and became Chicago lead to the IMAN- Washington, DC initiative (later renamed DC Project REACH). She went on to lead their finance department, managing the non-profit’s $2.5 million dollar budget.  

 

Ever committed to Interfaith relations, she has presented at the Parliament of World Religions in Melbourne Australia and in Castelgondolfo, Italy at the Focolare Conference of Muslims & Christians in Universal Fraternity.

Ndidi is an alumnus of University of Southern California's American Civic Leadership Institute where she received recognition from the Mayor's office for her commitment to civic engagement and leadership.

 

Ms. Okakpu has joined several delegations to The White House Office of Public Engagement addressing issues affecting marginalized American communities. She has been featured for her organizing work by the US State Department in its documentary on the contributions of Muslims in America along with other noted Americans such as Congressman Keith Ellison. She holds degrees in Business Administration and Finance from DePaul University.   She is  Washington, DC native and proud Chicago resident of 15+ years.  Ndidi currently serves as Convener and Board Chair of the Chicagoland Shura Council where she is the youngest member and first woman to be elected to, and to hold, that position.
